Nitty Gritty details wanted about MINI...

Sooo, now that I have officially put a down payment on a MINI, where do I go to find out about all the technical details on this car? I'm talking exploded parts diagrams, the works. What's available? Sort of like, is there a Chiltons or some such book out there talking about all the systems? Or is it too new?

I might be expecting too much, with my only experience in working on my first car, it being a 1973 bug (nothing like having a car quite a few years older than you!).

Thanks!

What did you get? I'm waiting for delivery of my MINI. I got a hyper blue MC with a white top. She'll be here in August.

One good source of info is the MINI book by Patrick Paternie. You can find them on ebay fairly cheap.

Deleted? Huh? I'd do a search (does Google index NAM?), however, the info I seek is varied and I'm sort of looking for something that encompasses the entire car - like a book. The problem I have with the search here - it doesn't do boolean.

Basically, ACVW's have a HUGE history and following, and are pretty "simple" cars. I'm hoping, while the MINI is VERY complicated, that the documentation on it is just as thorough.

As far as what I'm getting:

MC, CVT, HB/B, Premium, cloth seats, DSC, armrest, anthrac int, and I think that's about it. Tried to do it on the cheap, but DSC and Armrest bumped the price up 700.00!

Be sure to order the Bently Manual for the MINI. I got mine from Amazon.com. It's pricey, but well-worth it. Congrats!

Ahh, yes, but this is already such a expensive (21k) car, add any more, and I won't be able to afford it! I was alternating between adding the DSC and the armrest! I couldn't decide which I'd use more. So I got both, but will probably regret it (I don't like computers making life-or-death decisions for me).

As far as the fog lights go... if I add them, I will have to drop HB/B.

And...

I don't have DSC on my car, and in 27,500 4-season New England miles I've never once wished I had it. All I ever read about it on this site is how people are always turning it off, and how it kills power at inopportune times, nearly causing accidents. This car handles phenomenally without it. If money's tight, and especially if you're coming from ACVWs and yearning for a "simpler" MINI, I'd say drop the DSC and pick up another option, or just save the $ for a road trip once you get the car.

Whatever you do, enjoy the car!

DSC is handy in inclement weather. It can be a bother when turning onto the street from driveways into busy traffic, so turn it off! I like having it, and rarely turn it off, but that is just me.

I'm looking at DSC as more of a selling point than anything - not that I'd ever sell my MINI -> I haven't even received yet... however, if I ever sell, I think it would be a good thing to point out (I kick tires, "Boy, this MINI sure handles. See this? It's got DSC.") in the event I sell it a few years from now.

I'm trying to prep myself now, as I can get emotionally attached to vehicles. Heck, I love my "little" MINIvan (Chrystlyer, 94, voyager) but it's time to move on... and I just feel horrible, thinking the Voyager could be sold if my parents do not want it. See? It's just a van, and, and, I feel horrible about possibly selling it. Which is why with this car, I will not name it, or get a personalized license plate. Or mod it.

Anyways, this has gotten way off topic from where I started...

Thanks for the replies, I shall check the Bently manual/book out!
