Mine was replaced TWICE last year (at 43K and 47K miles respectively) under warranty. Pretty aggravating to say the least.

 

Just aded to the list at 61.000 klm and it stil leaking.65.000klm. i will be chaging it my self next time.. but i have to retork those bolt before...

 

Hah...I wish my rep would ask me not to fix something that was wrong with a car under warranty. I swear to tell the truth so help me god....We are to be good stewards to Manufacturer and Client a like. Anything else is less than acceptable.

 

The warranty index is not my problem, it's theres. Build a better car....

If they can't build it right, and i have to fix it for them, then they have to pay for it. How may T'stat gaskets and oil pan gaskets does it take. When it hurts them in the pocket enough. I don't feel sorry for them, I feel empathy for my customers. The customers are not doing anything wrong and deserve to have a car fixed with improved parts if there is a defect with them. Otherwise, there is a repeat problem. Finally in the last couple of months after all the Tstats started popping up leaking in '05, there is an improved gasket. How many millions did it cost??? Idiot beancounters!

 

just had my car serviced at Morristown MINI (75k service). SA told me i need to do this soon. Quoted me $600 !!!! this does not sound right at all, to say the least. thinking about asking Eric and the guys at Helix to do this for me on my next visit this coming Spring. what did everybody else here pay that didn't have it covered by warranty?

 

The dealer replaced my oil pan gasket a couple of months ago under warranty, at 37K. Would the service have involved an oil change? Just trying to gauge when to do my next oil change. The service writeup did not list oil and they did not reset my oil service counter. They also found and repaired a power steering leak under warranty, and that writeup did list hydraulic fluid under the parts. Kinda gross if they would just pour the old oil back in...

 

Oil will last the 15-18k miles, so technically there is nothing wrong with this. Drain it into a clean container and reuse it. According to your mileage, you still had almost 10k or so to go.

 

When they did my gasket I asked and was told they did not reuse the oil.
However, they did not do anything with the filter so consider that in your decision about oil change and the gasket service.
I would not have been happy to hear they put used oil back in my car.

 

Come on guys....it's the oil that came out of your car, not someone elses. What if it was two weeks after you had it changed and you were footing the whole bill. $40-50 extra bucks on your dime.

At the time, it was about 11 months/10K since my last oil change. I checked last night and the oil on the dipstick looks quite clean, so I assume they did replace the oil.

 

My concern would be with anyone who would reuse fluids. Taking them out of the car can contaminate in many ways, why take the chance. Also, the cost to MINI for using new oil from their 55 gal drum probably is only a few bucks.

Second point, the MINI techs don't know how long the oil they drain has been in there so why not be safe.

Last point, I would use new oil on MY DIME. I use Royal Purple which in not cheep but would NEVER put used oil back in my car.

 

Forgot to tell your guys that i eveen broth back a gallon of the oil that was in my car to use in the snowblower..

 

YOUR NOT REPAIRING AN OIL CHANGE, your replacing a leaking gasket. If the oil was safe in there before I changed the gasket, then it's safe afterwards. And...you don't use a filthy container, you use a clean one. You don't know how many times I've had someone call back after an OC or something was done and then authorize work that requires redraining the fluids. You say your ok with it, but when I present you with a bill that has 10qts of oil on it, you'd be pissed.

I'm not saying that if a car is within 2k miles of needing an OC anyway that you just do it right then, but if its only at it's "half life", it'll be fine.

And your comment on the MINI techs not knowing how long the oil has been in there isn't correct as long as were all communicating with each other...OBC says that the oil has 10k left on it..that means it has 10k left on it. If it says 2k left on it, it's getting changed unless you have informed me that you have changed your oil in the mean time and didn't reset your light.

The oil gets contaminated when??? When you take it out of the car and put in into a clean container? That is absurd! You have to use some common sense.

I didn't comment on this thread to begin with for any other reason than to say that lbvltec needs to have some ***** with his dealer's management and to speak out for what's right...it is his name that he is signing on the ticket and I'll be damned if I'll be coerced into doing something that I don't agree with and not note it on the ticket "X" is what this car needs. If management decides to veto my ideas which happens very few times when you communicate clearly with them how you feel and back it up with logical data.

 

Any photos of how-to in the web, let me know, as I'll try to change it, so I don't have to pay $600.00

Just got my '06 fixed under warranty. Service Advisor said that you cannot just replace the gasket, as it will leak again. They replaced the entire oil pan. My car has 35M miles on it...

 

...By the way, they DID re-use the old oil !!

 

I had to replace my oil pan gasket once. That was the second time I removed the oil pan. Just recently I removed the pan for a third time to use some oil pan gasket sealer on the damn thing to stop the leak. It has worked thus far.

I do not have any photos of a how to, but I can verbally describe in sufficient detail and use drawings to help out.

With the amount of work needed to do this, $600 is almost reasonable - if that includes the oil change and new belt.

 

Went to dealer for other warranty work,
and they said they were replacing the oil pan gasket too, as it ws weeping in the back,
fresh oil and now out of warranty, with fingers crossed.

2005 Mini S with 64,000 easy miles. Dealer just told us we need - front control arm bushings, alignment, main cooling fan,oil pan gasket, right side motor mount, valve cover gasket, crankcase vent valve. $2,360 if all done at once. Very disappointed - car appears to be a toy!

 

Oil pan gasket replaced at 46,000 miles under warranty. Time will tell if it starts to leak again.

 

Mine just started to leak on a 06

 

Just replaced my wife's @28K miles. Local shop charged me $400 to replace the gasket and all new oil. Didn't sound like a project for me.

 

Anyone want to walk me through this?

Mine started leaking at 64,000 miles and would like to save the money and change out the gasket myself
