AC Problem

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone here has encountered any AC problems? Mine has Auto Climate Control but it only blows hot air when the AC is on. Since I've had the car (first of April this year), it has actually worked 3 times. I took the car to the dealer this past friday to have it checked. To make a long story short, they don't know what is wrong and have sent in to corporate to see what to do! As of yesterday evening (Tuesday) they haven't heard back so my MINI is still just sitting there at the dealership! Does this seem odd to anyone?

Yes it does, although my A/C barely feels like it is blowing cold air

A/C problems - Round 4

I just took my '05 MCS Conv with 4K miles in for the fourth time to get the auto climate fixed. They replaced a sensor under the dash the first time then another one some where in the back the second time. There was no mention of what they did last time but the service guy was upset about someone in the service dept splicing some wires together under the dash. Every time I drove away, the A/C worked. 30 to 60 minutes later it's blowing hot air. I've also had the yellow service light come on twice. Something to do with the oxygen sensor. I told them to keep the car for two days after they finish. Drive it. Take it home. Put a hundred miles on it.

I should know something by the end of the week. I don't know what my options are if they don't get it to work.

I don't want to sound curt, but the manual controls always seem to work.

I don't get the need for auto climate control in a car. I can make changes to my heating/cooling, air flow direction without more than a glance at the controls.

I'm firm believer in KISS[keep it simple stupid]3 computers is enough.
This is not much help, but I was just looking for a thread to get this off my chest.
Thanks

I have to agree that manuals often are more reliable...and I admit I get the electronic simply for the 'loaded' factor

Yes, Very Frustrating!!

I have a 05 MCS going back to the dealer in Darien,CT on Monday for the second time for auutomatic A/C problems. Same F**king symptoms! THANKS to all of you, I at least left a message for the service manager and gave him your feedback. You might think that someone knows the extent of the problem and MIGHT respond honestly. Holy Moly!

Some people like the convenience of the automatic climate control and are willing to pay for it. If BMW/MINI decided to offer automatic climate control as an option, they (BMW/MINI) have an obligation to fix it when it is not working. It sounds like some sort of problem with the control unit and/or the IR sensor. If you are getting a run-around, they may be out of parts. The computer controlled a/c systems have been around for a very long time (a 1995 850 Volvo that I used to own had a dual zone automatic climate control system...); the technology is not rocket science. There probably was just some bad part(s) and there is a shortage of replacement parts at the moment.

A shortage of replacement parts doesn't explain getting the run-around, however. You might have to consider an alternative dealer.

Warm A/C

They fixed mine today: said it was a cracked condenser that leaked all the refrigerant out. It worked for two years, then last week I took it in for replacement of the aux radiator fan motor. They said that they'd topped off the freon at that time, though I'd noticed no problem with the A/C not being cold. Two days later, NO A/C at all.

Coincidence or damaged when the unit was pulled out to replace the aux fan motor? I have my opinion, but it seems to differ with the service dept's opinion.

$850 at 62,000 miles.

Also one exhaust bracket has rusted off (MCS, driver's side). $150.
Aux fan motor: $500.

I eventually talked them into covering the aux fan motor. The other $1000 is my problem.

Say what you want about resale value, parts and labor are making my Mini experience "less than satisfying".

A/C Problem - Round 4

If three times are a charm, four times is …. what?

I drove it off the lot – A/C blasting frigid air. I get a few miles down the road and I’m sweating bullets. It’s blowing hot air. Not the cool fresh air from outside but HOT air. I fumble with the ***** while vocalize my displeasure – like THAT ever works.

It’s back at the dealer (06/29/2005). I reviewed the work order and it looks like its popping EVAP sensors like M&M’s. At this point I'm wishing I could get the A/C to work manually. If they don’t get it this time I think I’ll go with the manual suggestion. How hard can that be?
