Well this sure sounds like my click, though I have a 2003 MC(Not an S). I took into the dealer they replaces my tie rod ends, thought it it might have been ball joints, I'll have to check when I get home. Well I got the car back, still clunking, and the alignment was off. Got to love it, you take it in for one thing and get it back with two things needing to get fixed. That was over a week ago and so tonight I take it back in for them to get another chance.

My suspicion is that shops are pushing to beat book time so they can double bill for the hours, and they are not paying attention to the details. I would say this is true of all the dealers I have had cars into in the last few years. MINI, AUDI, HONDA, TOYOTA, VW, and SAAB. The funny part is when ever my ex took the FORD Company car in they got the work done on time and right. Actually had me thinking about getting a FORD.

I expect I will get banned from my dealer soon; after all they have to be getting tired of getting 1's and 2's on my customer service satisfaction calls. My feeling is that my minimum expectation is when I bring the car in to get something fixed; I should get the car back fixed. Any one think that’s unreasonable?

Well I got to the dealer last night and dropped off the car, mentioned the alignment issue and was told this, we replaced the ball joints so the alignment should not have been changed and we did not due one. So after some pushing on my end the Service writer agreed to take it up with his manager as to weather I would have to pay for the alignment. I hope is they will fix it free, but my bigger question is this, if replacing the ball joints did not affect the alignment, what did?

I am going to post the results of what they find when I get it back, but I told them I don’t want my MINI back until it’s fixed this time.

I've been dreaming about an Elise, but with no bumpers I don't think I could handle a $6K replacement front clam if someone bumps into it.

I have the clicking as well... At first i thought it was a nail in my tire... but then after a close inspection, no nail.

The clicking only seems to sound when you are moving forward. I am not sure what it is but you can't hear it if your going backwards...

You all think it could be the torque deal?

i am taking it into the dealer tomorrow to get it fixed.

i took my car to the dealer this morning. My sa told me that Mini is aware of this issue and they even have an internal Mini Bullitin on it. The techs called Mini and are waiting to hear back on the what to do with my car. Will keep you all posted on what I hear.

(My car only has 600 miles on it, bought it 2 weeks ago and i hate leaving it at the dealership )

I imagine it is occuring more with the 05's then previous models. So Far I have only noticed the click 2 times but only under pretty hard acceleration. I had my mini in 3 times for this issue and the last time back in August I think it was there was no write up from mini about it but he said that if I brought it back again they would do an investigation and send it into mini and they would handle it from there. Keep us posted b/c I have a feeling I am going to have to make another trip to the dealer for this as well. The retorquing has helped but I still think it is only going to be a temp solution.

FWIW my first MCS was not JCW equipped and exhibited the click at 40+K. My current JCW was barely past 12k when it started clicking. Now if indeed the 05s are as hot or hotter off the line than my 04 JCW, then we may have an explanation why the indications seem to be occuring earlier.

Taking the wheel on and off has been known to silence the click... for a bit.

best wishes!

Once my driver's side driveshaft was replaced, the problem never returned.

Well 15000 miles later and still no clicking /popping. Looks like it has either worked itself out or the last re torquing of the axle nut seemed to fix it.

I've got the silly click too. However, I only notice mine going into reverse. It's just a single click once the car is put into reverse from being parked. I wonder if I need to take mine in for service?

My car was making the clicking sound when giving it gas or letting off in 1st or 2nd gear. It would make a single click or sometimes multiple clicks. I removed the left front tire and noticed about an inch of play in the tire (shaking it from top to bottom). Took it to the dealer, they replaced the wheel hub and bearing. Everything seems fine now.

OK, I just got the click last week. It seems to engage after the wheel has made a complete rotation from the start, and whenever I let off the throttle in 2nd or 3rd gear, and sometimes right after shifting into 2nd after the burble. Should I just bring it in or has anyone found out for sure what this is and can it be fixed easily?

yes. easily fixed. first or second times. just do what the first post details.

or take it to the dealer if it's close by, and pray to your god that they know what the fk they are doing.

cheers

Hi All,
A big thank you to all the hassles you guys have had to put up with to allow my dealer to be able to fix my "click" first time!!!
You have saved my car from having its gearbox replaced (first diagnosis).
The car is a 2006 MCS JCW and the dealer noticed (and photographed to send to BMW) that the nut has actually pulled clear of the locking tab and rotated itself!!!!
Wheel bearings have also been replaced as one had developed a bit of play in it.
Its nice to be click-free!!!
Cheers from Down Under.

Hey all! Just thought we'd drop in and say no clicking since our re-torque with adding 5 ft-lbs to the standard torque spec. :-) Hope everyone else is having "click-free" winters!

Thanks to the Service Manager up at Motorwerks MINI in Bloominton, MN. He learned this trick from his days working for VW Motorsports building SCCA Road Roace cars. :-)
