Coolant Level

The plastic coolant resevoir on our 2005 MC only has about 1/2 inch in it. We know that it should be between the min and max. The car has 1900 miles on it. Our concern is where did the coolant go? Should I get it serviced as soon as possible? We are adding coolant/distilled water tonight because we don't want it to be dry in there. My husband checked the coolant level in the radiator and it is fine. Could it be a problem with the plastic resevoir? We are also concerned that it could be a bad gasket. Has anyone else experienced problems with the coolant level?

Mine was a little low today as well. I have about 2,600 miles on the odometer. Hopefully it's somewhat normal...

Be Cool...

I've added 50/50 coolant and water a couple of times in the last year. It only seems to take a cup or so to bring it back up to the correct level. I would guess that it isn't enough to worry about, but I would rather have it right. Either way, the temp gauge doesn't seem to change. I don't think you need to use distilled water. Bottled water works fine.

Get some coolant from your dealer.Mine just gives it to me premixed that I keep in one of the cubbys in the boot.
If the system is opened, it is hard to bleed out the air, so the level will drop for a week or so, as the air bleeds out the breather.
I have seen my tank go from max, to min. and back up in a day. Just keep some fluid handy, and add as needed.
I find my fluid needs topping up when the car has been serviced, for a week or 2, then it stays full for months.
Seems to be another of the "charms" of these cars

This is very normal for our cars as far as I know. It's usually low enough that you can see baffles at the bottom of the tank.

I've added a dab of 50/50 mix a few times within 17.5k miles.

I check while the engine is complete cold and add just enough to
level off at the middle of the min/max marks. ive added coolant
to other cars that I have so i think it's normal.
