Optional mounting position for engine ground wire?

I'm ***-ed

I broke the factory ground wire mounting.(in red circle) Does anyone know what could be the option for mounting the ground wire? How about the one in yellow arrow?

My 2¢ but I think you'd be better not using that. It's a structural support location. Not the ideal spot for a ground wire.
You can safely use any non support location maybe even one of the IC standoff towers. Not much weight or stress on them.

If your arrow is pointing to one of the IC clamps, then you can't ground anything there because they are insolated from the motor via the rubber boots they are holding on. You'ed be better off going to the motor mount as I think rataha suggested.

Rocket,

Not sure what you can and should do about your repair.

The grounds in a modern car are carefully chosen by the design enginers to minimize Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) to the operation of the complex digital circuitry that controls the car. There is a lot to be said here. Look at the ground busses in the rear trunk area and under the seats. That particular heavy bus wire may carry the large currents for the battery, starter, and other accessories and also the much smaller noise currents picked up from the various sensors and those generated by the digital systems. A disruption of those noise circuits could (not "will") create unwanted problems.

I am an experimentor and do-it-yourselfer, and even I would make every effort to repair or replace the damaged ground as close to stock as possible.

Regards,

Well thanks for the good info. I think what I did now as you see in the picture, I did use the JB weld and tighten both top and bottom real tight. Now it looks like it really well attached.

I will try call BMW to see if they would replace it for me under warrantee.

Heck...no more fooling around under the bonnet for me then.

I too agree with Rat. You could probably still use the factory wire there, too.

I was in the same boat as you are. I gave the bolt a little to much oomph and broke mine as well. What I did is move it to the motor mount as onasled suggested. You'll have to aug*sp* out the inside of the connector or if you can find one that fits you could recrimp it. It's been hooked up like this for about 2 months with out any side effects that I can tell.
