It's all in the manual. Assuming it's an S you keep it under 4500rpms for the first 1250 miles. The first oil changed covered under the maintenance plan is within 300 miles of the service indicator (the mileage that is listed on the speedo when you first start up the car, before the driven milage shows up).

I changed it myself around 5k. The next one is due at 10k and I'll let the dealer handle that.

Welcome flipm3 (hope that doesn't mean that you actually did flip an M3)

Don't wait for the indicator (10k - 12k miles) to change your oil. Do it yourself after break-in or at least by 4k - 5k miles, and at similar intervals thereafter. Do a search on NAM for oil changes, we've all written many times. Briefly you will need a few items (under $60 - rhino ramps, used oil depot, a large 36mm socket, torque wrench - and about $35 in synthetic oil, future changes will cost just for oil and filter $10 or less). It's easy, fun and quick.

1200 miles for the first, every 8000 miles afterwards.

First oil change- if by the manual then about 10,000 miles- see your dash service gauge. Many owners do their own non covered oil change early from 2000 miles to about 5000 miles (no harm done).
see

For break in
See

Or search for more threads on both- there are many!

Mine was done at about 9.5k at the dealer.
The dealer told me to just come in when it gets within 200 miles
of the indicator.
