First off - installed the Moss skid plate during lunch today. Easy install. You need a 6mm allen tool, 10 mm socket, and large phillips screw driver. Took about 30 mins.

Now - I drove off with my stereo off and my window down to listen for any loose pieces/vibrations from the install. I'm pulling out and shift from first to second. I immediately hear a clunk while shifting. Nothing too loud (how should I say it) and it doesn't sound like something's about to fall off. It doesn't happen in any other gears. I've been able to replicate it many times - all of which have come from shifting 1st to 2nd.

Any thoughts to what this might be? I'm not sure what type of synchros are used, but could this be the culprit?

Test your MCS and see if yours does it as well. I have a MCS with 6 speed. Just wondering if this is an isolated case.

I've read on other boards people with a similar complaint.

I have noticed the same noise with the windows down. Can't hear it with windows up. The feel of the shift is smooth. I hope it is nothing is wrong. Keep me posted.

Yes, this has been mentioned quite a few times on this and other boards. My MINI does it. The consensus seems to be it's nothing to worry about it's a normal sound for our gearboxes.
