'07 R56 P0001 Fault Code
'07 R56 P0001 Fault Code
Hi all. I have a '07 R56 Base that is throwing this code for an open circuit in the fuel volume regulator which of course this vehicle does not have. Symptoms are; idles rough and will eventually stall but does well above 1,500 - 2,000 RPM. Here is the history:
- First start up after head rebuild.
- Front of car was on jackstands for ~6 months.
- Battery disconnected for that time period (obviously).
- Did not do anything with fuel pump or filter.
- All wiring connections triple checked.
- VIN: WMWMF335X7TL67566
- I have been pointed to issues with the fuel level sensors. Since nothing was done with the pump or filter, can they just go wrong sitting there? Would sitting at an angle for an extended period of time affected the fuel level sensor mechanism?
- Also have been told it may be fault with DME programming, although this issue never occurred before teardown. The specific problem outlined was that the DME is programed to detect 2 fuel level sensor but that the vehicle has only one so it thinks one is disconnected. There was apparently a BMW TSB issued about this, but I was unable to find it. This can't be the case, however, as this vehicle does have 2 fuel level sensors. Could having the battery disconnected for so long have damaged the DME?

You need to use a scan tool/code reader that reads BMW codes.
For your ECU (MEV172), P0001 is a fault code for the clutch switch, which is not a good fit with the car symptoms.
In the meantime, carefully check for an intake air leak (unmetered).

Hey Maybe,
Continues to make no sense. There is a laundry list of P0001 codes for BMW, one of which is for fuel volume control. Even if it does involve the fuel level sensors, I don't understand how they could just go bad sitting in the vehicle. No such issue was indicated prior to teardown.
I will check for air intake leaks. Thanks for the lead.
