I have another case of Gremlins

I originally posted this in MINI Talk here https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=37059
but I figured I could get a better understanding of the problem over here in the tech section. Without further ado:

Electrical that is::

5:15pm on 2/3/05
After about one hour of mixed highway/city driving my wipers began to act funny. During their routine travels to the edges of my windshield, they began to pause at seemingly random spots along they way. The pauses lasted about 1 to 3 seconds a piece. Then, the wipers lost all control, sat back down in their home position and refused to be coaxed out for a cleaning wipe.

At that time, I realized my ACC had turned completely dark (scared perhaps? ) and it too refused my gentle coaxing to turn back on.

After about 10 min of fiddling, lo and behold it all came back on and continued to work in the normal fashion until I got home and drank away my concerns.

7:05am on 2/4/05
Wipers are acting up again, no amount of persuasive baby voice has any effect. ACC is also on the fritz, and the hans. Wiper availability is intermittent at best, working half the time and the other time simply resting. After 18min, the ACC comes back up, blowing a storm of warm air at me (finally) and wipers are back to their good ole selves.

Any ideas? I hate to make an appt with the dealer 70 miles away and refusing to give me a loaner because I bought the car out of state. Heck, I lived out of state when I bought the car. I relocated and my currently closest dealership doesn't take that into consideration, jerks.

Updated:: I did get a loaner, a beautiful Buick Century. I'm ecstatic. She's currently at the dealership as we speak.

In case anyone cares, I just made a follow up call to the dealership and this is my story::

The sunroof's rain gutter/plug was off track, therefore allowing mucho agua to leak down into the car. I never noticed because it followed some inner bits all the way down the driver side A-pillar and then pooled somewhere behind the dash. The water then corroded a bunch of wires and that was the problem.

How exciting. Now I'm nervous that after taking apart half my car, it'll be all squeaky in the future. I just hope everything gets put back together correctly.

That sucks man. Hope they fix it all up for ya. Make sure the dealer checks that there is no rust wherever the water has been collecting under the carpet.james

Thanks for the feedback on the wipers

jefe, when I first started to read your post I started to think about my buddy's 05 MCS. He had a different problem with wipers not working. Found the wiper arms were loose on the drive pinions. Poped the covers off and tightened the nuts down, he said they were both real loose by a couple of turns.
Just a heads up.

No wiper issues but I have had my ACC not come on 4 times in the past 2 years, twice just recently. When I turn off the car and start it back up, it works just fine. Huh?

Not long after I got my MCS in july I noticed some funny light problems. My third brake light stayed on all the time and I mean all the time even the car was sitting in the parking lot without the key in it.

Turns out the drain hose for the AC condenser was kinked and had caused water to leak into the Body Control Module. This fried the module and caused the light to stay on all the time.

They took most of the interior apart to fix it ordered a new BCM and installed it only to find that BCM was messed up.

So they had to take the car apart again and install another BCM.

They had my car for over a week to fix it.

Got her back yesterday, only took a day to fix. Everything is working as usual.

I may have noticed an extra squeak, but then again I'm hypersensitive and was actively listening for things but then I couldn't reproduce (the squeak, my naughty bits work fine).

They washed her nicely too, even vacuumed the inside and cleaned the door sills and the rubber floor mats. Hell yah to Towne MINI.
