I am curious why MINI decided 74ft-lbs ? from the looks of it -- it does not carry heavy weights just side twists and up\down motion. Isn't this too high?

It’s an M12 bolt of presumably decent grade with good thread engagement bolted into steel, if memory serves. Seems like a reasonable value.

I was expecting somewhere 45ft-lbs to 55ft-lbs., I guess that's what MINI\BMW engineers got when they calculated the thing.

The 28ft-lbs that one is expected, it's bolted on to the softer aluminum pan.
