Radio silence

Not sure if my title makes sense...
However,,, I think I may have an issue with my factory Alpine radio/head unit. With the car off/not running, I get static free and clear radio reception. But as soon as I start the car, I begin to lose radio reception and becomes more static as if out of range from the radio station. Is there a cause or solution to this? Has anyone found or installed a frequency booster to help mitigate poor reception?
I prefer to keep my factory head unit (maintain the Mini's original factory equipment).

Thanks in advance for any recommendations or advice.

This is typically caused by interference from the ignition system. Are you using stock parts or aftermarket plugs/coil/wires?

Yes - NGK blue spark plug wires w/stock factory coil pack.

Edit: I may have the OEM plug wires stored in box somewhere. If I can find them I'll give it a shot and swap them out to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks.

Then I would look at any high power electrical device (alternator, PS pump, etc.) Try starting the engine (very briefly) with the serp belt removed.

@Here2Go How old is your Antenna? assuming your on the original.

I replaced my antenna and base due to it rotting out creating a water leak. Instantly better reception, and less interference. NOW... these things are a small fortune so be mindful of that. The reception however does not compare to that of any other vehicles i have owned and is still complete crap lol. There is also still slight interference with background noise. I have a Pioneer double din installed, all aftermarket speakers and AMP and still get this static interference. Let me know how you make out, curious to find a solution that can eliminate this completely!

@mrbean Interesting suggestion. My alternator is 15 years old but still charges (amazingly),14.3 volts. Battery is 2 years old. But will try to remember your suggestion when I do my timing chain.
@Scoobaru2010 - Coincidentally, I've just replaced my antenna last February 2024(?). The rubber base had a small tear. It didn't seem to effect radio signal. It was merely for aesthetics.
I did replace the head unit with a really nice 05 (or 06) salvage yard find about 4years ago. Definitely a noticeable difference compared to my original 04 head unit. Up until now, I've always played music from my phone or Mp3 device and hadn't really noticed until recently having discovered a couple of radio stations that actually play my preferred era of music. Having replaced my head unit back then - I probably should check to ensure that I properly seated the antenna wire.

Will update if I discover anything relevant.

Well wouldn't you know?
As it turns out; the static is caused by my USB/Bluetooth device plugged into my cigarette lighter.
From the moment I unplug it from the cig lighter - the static immediately dissappears and I get clear static free reception with the ignition on and car running.
