Hello fellow MINI enthusiasts! I am new to the forum as we just picked up a 2012 Cooper S for my son's first car. My parents originally had it and offered it to him at a great discount since they are getting older and didn't want the 6 speed or low entry/exit. My parents owned it since 2018, but a couple years ago, the wipers started acting up. I don't know the exact symptoms from when they had it, but I know my dad replaced the motor, blinker/wiper module on column (SZL?), relays R5 and R7 under the hood, and added a ground strap to the motor. The wipers still do not operate correctly so they just only drove it during nice weather.
Now we own it and my son and I have started digging into it, but are coming up to a dead end. The wipers are very consistent in their operation. When you click the wiper stalk either up or down, the wipers run at a constant speed for roughly 15 seconds, then stop anywhere they want. You can then instantly click the stalk up or down again and it will repeat the same thing. After the second time though, you are not able to actuate them at all until you restart the car. When they are running, additional clicks of the stalk do nothing. No change in speed at all. I have pulled the motor harness connector and found that the 15 second signal can be seen at the harness through the black/green wire. That same signal pattern can be seen when pulling relays R5 and R7 and probing the pins (although I will have to look up the pin numbers to remember which pins). My next steps are to probe the pins out of the JBE.
The only other issue that the car has is, at times, the JBE will rapidly click when the key is pressed in, but stops as soon as the car starts. When this happens, the stability control light and brake light may stay on, but not all the time. I suspect something in the JBE, but, short of mailing it to someone to test it, I am not sure where to look. Any thoughts? This is such a fun little car and I am hoping we can get it 100% operational. Thanks for the help!
