Comfort Access on new key

Hi all,

I got a new factory key from MINI after losing my last original on an R56. My car has Comfort Access. The new fob unlocks the doors via the fob buttons and starts the car via the slot, but the comfort access features don't work. Also, this will be the car's 3rd key.

Does anyone know if there's a process to get the comfort access features to work? I'm reading confusing and conflicting information out there on the topic. The consensus seems to be that there are only 2 comfort access keys allowed on bmw/minis, and that the other keys need to be disabled. Can anyone confirm? Has anyone had a similar situation?

Thanks!
-James

I would get it programmed to take the place of the lost key.

You need to take it to the dealership to have programmed or if you have ISTA software you can do it yourself, which is what I did for mine. Can’t remember which options I used to remove previous keys. But I can look if you need the information.

Thanks all!

To anyone else landing here in a similar situation that doesn't have ISTA access. The tool and process shown in this video worked for me.
. The UI on the app was janky, but it got the job done at a small cost over having the dealer straighten me out.

I had to get my Comfort Access reprogrammed too after getting a new key. Dealer prices were nuts, so I went with a local locksmith who sorted it out quick. If you're anywhere near BC, I used https://thelockdoc.ca/locations/burnaby/ and they handled everything, including the key coding and syncing it with the car so Comfort Access worked again right away.
