'06 R53 hatch latch
'06 R53 hatch latch
My latch went out about 2 weeks ago. I pulled it out and disassembled it because it was broke and there was no chance I could break it even more...so why not? At the time of it breaking, it would no longer hold the hatch closed. Well it's mostly dead but I've found a workaround so I can close the hatch and lock it, but I have to mess around with a screwdriver and manual release slider. I bought an aftermarket replacement and installed it. The mechanical part worked like a charm, but the electrical part, the part that tells the computer the hatch is open or closed, is confused. When the hatch is open, it tells the computer it is closed and vice versa. So driving down the road with the hatch closed, the hatch open idiot light is illuminated and so are all interior lights until you press the overhead light switch. I emailed the manufacturer, URO about it, and they said they have a manufacturing issue. I had already ordered a replacement from them, and when it arrived, same problem. Sent both back, ordered another brand and hello same stupid problem.
My question is...could I be doing something wrong? It's one electrical connector, 2 bolts and a cable release involved in the install process. Surely I don't have to program the computer to tell it to settle down and tell it what open and closed means? Unless I am doing something wrong here, I am going to buy an OEM replacement, and may get a used one or new, not sure yet, and thought I'd just shout out before I send this third latch back.
I did hit a big bump in the road a few days ago which caused the hatch to partially open, light comes on and then I start smelling exhaust fumes coming through the unsealed hatch. This has been an almost 3 week ordeal so far and I'm a little tired of it.
TIA,
Mike

Oh yeah, I did go down the rabbit hole looking through the forum...and found I also need battery terminal spray. I always seem to find myself heading in different directions to the initial mission, such is the life of the squirrel.
Same problem

Exact same thing happened to me yesterday. URO part, whom I’ve used in the past with success. Did you ever find a solution?
Yep, the trunk locks fail. their is a little switch you can manually do to unlock them.
Its that little white nylon part on the latch, https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/51242754528/
We have a lower cost OES supplier on order, hope that matches my R58 (will test) so I can do that one also based of the design. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-bremmen-...242754528~brp/
