Check the bushings on the hydraulic rod that is part of the belt tensioner. Over time they dry up, then fall out causing the rod to vibrate against the anchor bolts at both (or one) ends. Same thing happened to my 2004 S. You can purchase the hydraulic rod separately from the entire tensioner and it's an inexpensive fix. Access is easy via the right-side wheel well once you remove the fender liner - remove two bolts and replace.

Brilliant cheers, sounds like it's causing an absolute nightmare for the engine, how long do you reckon I'd be able to drive around like that as it's my daily driver and could I do anything to bodge it to keep it going till I can get the part?

Your belt tensioner is somewhat compromised by missing bushings but the noise is more an irritant than a problem (if that is in deed the problem). Pull the fender liner and check it out first.

turns out the main issue was actually the air filter causing the car to run horribly, but the extra noise sounds like its coming from the supercharger, had a look under the fender liner and the tensioner looked fine, asked the garage and turns out that was replaced too.
