R50 2005 Mini Cooper Base P0455

2005 Mini Cooper Base, 5 speed transmission with P0455 code (Evap system large leak), also the “check gas cap” light.

I’ve replaced my gas cap, and verified that I have the vapor canister/purge valve in the correct orientation and hooked up correctly and still the code comes back after a few miles. Anything else I can check? I’m not sure what to look at now. I’ve read that the vapor canisters can get cracked but I also checked that and mine appears normal on outside inspection. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I’m well aware of the smoke test as an option, just trying to exhaust all of my DIY options as it is not convenient or cheap to have my local Mini shop look at this, thanks.

I had this and took the EVAP canister and pump out and tore is apart only to find my vacuum hose was not pressed onto the fuel pressure regulator.
