replacing rack and pinion end seal

i've searched, and either it doesn't exist or i can't find it.

are there any known write-ups on how to replace the seals within a rack and pinion? i've got a rack and pinion with minimal mileage on it that is puking fluid from the passenger boot.

i don't really want to replace the rack and pinion right now as i have a laundry list of suspension / steering maintenance to do....later. i'd really like to be able to pop off the wheel and whatever is needed to replace the seal on the car.

but...i can't find any info on that. is it in any of the repair manuals? i've not bought one yet.

I found rebuild kits. But nothing pertaining to show the process. Maybe in a Bentley manual.

There are components within the steering rack that require a hydraulic press. Not sure you're going to be able to tackle the specialty parts. A rebuilt rack is not that expensive.

i'd not heard of bentley before until recently. if someone said that was in there, i'd snag one in a heartbeat. i already have a haynes manual, but rebuilding the rack and pinion isn't in there.

my initial searches showed that i'm going to have to drop the subframe to do the rack and pinion. that's what i'd like to avoid for now. the last thing i found suggests i won't.

hat said, if the full rack and pinion is so cheap feel free to send me money to cover it.

you're missing the point. the price doesn't make it any less work. but thanks for nothing useful.

You shouldn't ask for help if you don't want it. Dropping the subframe is the only method to accomplish what you say you want to do. If you're afraid of the work involved then you also have no business trying to rebuild the steering rack. Maybe you need a different car, and a different attitude.

They have remove/install. No rebuild info. Relevant pages follow.

You're making assumptions about me or my motivations instead of asking questions when you don't understand.

thanks for that. the haynes that i have has instructions to bring it out of the passenger side and that says the driver. i don't know that one looks particularly easier or harder than the other, though.
