High-mileage CVTs
High-mileage CVTs
I've heard of a couple 100,000+ mile standard Mini Coopers and Cooper S models (2002 model year). But what is the highest mileage CVT out there in northamericanmotoring land? Just wondering about the reliability of the CVT, as I have a 2003 MINI (May 03 build) with just about 25K on it. I go in for my 25K free service soon. The car drives ("feels") pretty much exactly the same as the day I drove it off the lot.
What types of FREE SERVICES will my dealer do for the CVT? For example, will they flush and refill the CVT fluid under warranty -- is it listed as something they do before the 3-year, 36K warranty period is up? Just wondering how often I should have the CVT tranny fluid changed...and also want to know any experiences other CVT owners have had as far as long-term tranny reliability/performance.
Thanks,
-Boognish

Quiet in CVT MINI-land
No one knows? I thought there would be at least a few CVT owners on board... post yer mileage and experiences with your CVT...why not?

I dont have high mileage but my CVT is rather old. Its a july 2002 build, and so far everything is great.
In terms of it handling higher HP. I have an CAI and exhaust(for around 19k miles) and everything is still running GREAT. Im at a total of 22k miles and have no problems
Not exactly high, but figured i would share

Good as new...
I have a 2002 Mini CVT built in June with 21,000 miles on her.. The car feels like it is brand new and all the initial rattles and problems are gone. The only thing that has been of a concern was the upgrade recall. The car has been a little herky jerky since that upgrade was installed. I hope they plan on correcting this at my next service interval.
I have an 03 CVT with about 28k miles and the dealership did flush the transmission fluid with my second oil change. I didn't ask for it, so I guess it was just part of the maintenance. Overall, I've been very happy with the CVT
2003 Cvt
26K on my 2003 and no major problems. I did have a main seal leak but it was repaired under warranty and no repeat of the problem so far. I would assume that since the 1st major maintenance service includes a fluid change and that since it occurs around 25K that the fluid needs replacement about every 25K. Since I live about 2hrs from the dealer - future replacements will take place locally. Hopefully the fluid is fairly standard spec and readily available - I can imagine what the out of warranty dealer charge would be.
