R55 with the N14 Engine. No start. HFPF or LPFP?
R55 with the N14 Engine. No start. HFPF or LPFP?
Hey gang, trying to figure out which direction to go with this issue, and hoping someone here can point me right.
I've got a 2010 Clubman S with just over 100k miles. Repairs that have already been done: Timing Chain, New Transmission, Clutch, Flywheel, Pressure Plate, Footwell Module. Known but unaddressed issues: water leak shorted out the keyless entry and radio controls last fall.
Couple of weeks ago I went a few days without driving the car (during some cold weather) and when I went to use it, it wouldn't start. Had not had any mechanical issues in quite a while. Battery was pretty old, so I swapped that out, but no dice.
Car tries to crank, and it seems like it is going to turn over, but never is able to. Starter seems to be engaging, the tach needle jumps a bit when I try to start the car.
At this point I'm thinking is a fuel pump issue. I'm unable to hear anything when I put my ear up to the fuel filler when trying to start the car, but I honestly don't have a trained ear to know if the LPFP is engaging.
I guess my main question is whether this sounds like a HPFP or a LPFP issue, or if there's something that I may not be considering.
Any help would be very greatly appreciated!
EDIT: Only code I got on the OBD2 was P15E8.

When you mean tries to start, does the motor actually turn over a few revolutions with the starter engaged? If so, then I’d suspect a fuel pump. If the motor is not turning at all, then I’d look to a short or something. I had a similar problem and a battery seems to have resolved it, but I have a feeling it might return.
Some other drivers reported the engine or coolant temp shorting out allowing the fan to run and drain the battery. This also signaled a leaking thermostat housing.
