New battery is not charging

So I had a problem with my battery, and thought it was just because of the big cold spell. Put it on the charger for 2 days, and it wouldn't even charge it.
It did spark when I connected the charger to the battery, but there is always something small running so I didn't think too much about it.
When the old battery didn't charge at all, I replaced it with a new one. Still sparking when I pulled the cables.
Drove the car with the new battery for about 10 minutes, parked it, and it doesn't turn over - battery is drained again.

So at this point, I'm thinking there is a short, or the alternator is out. But because of the sparking, I'm suspecting a short is more likely than the alternator.

How would you go about finding a short? There are no engine lights or codes, the car thinks it is fine.
Not sure what to do at this point.

Big spark or little spark?
Try disconnecting the positive battery lead & connect the charger direct to the battery terminals overnight.
DON'T close the trunk!

Connect an ammeter in-line with the battery and check the current after the modules have gone to sleep. If it’s too high, then start pulling fuses.

It's a pretty big spark. Nothing is on. Car still starts if I charge the battery before connecting the cables.

Thanks, I will do this. I somehow blew up my multimeter, waiting on a new one. This time I'll pay more than $12. lol.
