How to access pistons
How to access pistons
I have had an 07 mini justa (N12) for a little over a year, bought for my granddaughter. I thought she was 16 in '21, naa, only 15. So I've garage kept her car and gone through it. Many electrical bugs cleared up (Thank you Minitobe). It was burning a little oil and of course at 107K miles, needed some work on the valves seats. The engine is removed, not a bad deal.
Here is my question:
I've pulled off the cylinder head and several of the valves are really tired. I plan on buying a rebuilt cylinder head. Pretty good deal
The short block, to my surprise is in excellent condition. Top of pistons look great, a little carbon deposit, but walls are smooth. I will certainly replace the rings at this point, However, the Bentley Book doesn't show anything on accessing the main engine block.
? Do I remove the lower unit above (or underneath) the oil pump?
? Better yet, is there a link available to a exploded view, breakdown?
Thanks for your help. This site has allowed me to correct a mistake I made when I purchased this car. Cute, is never a good reason to buy a car. I have tried looking up this info from past threads. However, my queries always show 50 things I'm not searching for. I'm sure there is a way, but I am sucking air on search information.
Regards,
Briscoe

I'm not sure I understand your question. This illustration may help (or information contained at realoem.com). You shouldn't have to split the block as the piston rods/bolts are accessible from below between the crank journals.

You'll find several part numbers and alternative parts in some cases you might need here:
https://www.leebmann24.de/bmw-ersatz...31&og=01&hg=11
It's German but quite easy to understand from the pictures. Just google the part numbers afterwards.
For example:
piston rings OE BMW:
11257566479
piston rings MAHLE:
081 RS 00104 0N0
Excellent
I was steered toward Mahle, thanks for the confirmation. BMW quit making parts and then rebuilders dropped the N12. I would dread trying to swap out engine models to an N14. Wow.
N12 pistons and rings are still easily available both from BMW and Mahle via every European
BMW dealership and hundreds of independent vendors dealing with Mahle parts respectively:

Hardly a issue.
