Gouged cylinder wall and head repairable?

I just got a 2007 HT base "justa" r56 n12. New to mini coopers but very mechanically inclined. Never rebuilt an engine tho. Was supposed to be just timing but found a shattered piston, deep gouges in cylinder wall, and a beat up head around the valves for 1 cylinder. What's my best course of action.? The gouges in cylinder wall are deep. Can it be saved with a rebore? Get new block and swap internals? Tia

I think I'd be shopping for a new engine if I were in your shoes. The block and head might possibly be salvageable by a good machine shop, but it seems likely your crankshaft also would have suffered a significant amount of stress until all those bits of piston found their way to the oil pan.

I spent $455 on getting my N14 block bored 0.5mm over with one cylinder getting a dry sleeve. Add new pistons, bearings, stretch bolts, etc. and you're in over a grand just on the block. The costs of a rebuild can add up quick - easily exceeding the value of the car. Good luck!

Better pics showing the extent of the bore damage would be helpful

Well, it's been 500 miles since I completed my rebuild. It took ~5-6 months all told (from diagnosis to turn key). Only a few left over screws. You can see the other related posts, but during rebuild, I replaced the flywheel and clutch in addition to all the block internals. I've effectively got a new car now. I just wanted to close this one out to send a thank you to the team!
