Starting to confuse me

I see Bosch lists SR0466X and SR0470X both fitting the gen 1 MINI. I have an R53 with a May 2003 build date and do not know which one to buy.

Any thoughts?

Jeff

Yes, I know about realoem and and use it quite often, but your response did not answer my question.
The mfg part number is 12417570488. That does nothing to describe the two Bosch starters other than a cross reference to the mfg part number. When I do a search on the Bosch web site I get two choices for a starter. No description given other than they fit the the 1.6 MINI inline 4, thus the question posted above.

So I ask again; what is the difference between the two Bosch starters? and which one should I buy to fit my 2003 R53?

after doing a quick 5 minute search on the part numbers in your first post, the SR0470X starter says it's for the manual transmission. You might want to do the same search and come up with the same conclusion

Your welcome

Thank you for your help. I will order the correct part and get it installed when I get the time.

SR0490X is the wrong part

I know it has been a while for this post, but I thought i would give an update for anyone doing a search for starters.
I just now got into the starter replacement. (waiting on other parts for a major update) and I can tell you that the SR04790X DOES NOT FIT. The gear cone and case are too wide and will not fit into the opening. I was unable to return the part because it had been too long since purchase, so I removed the solenoid and motor and moved over to the old gear cone.

Problem solved on two fronts.
1. I have a newer starter
2. I know that SR0470X is the wrong part.

Both FCP and ECS give the Bosch part number as SR0466X for a 2003 R53.

I don't think there was an automatic trans option for the 2003 R53, was there?

The CVT was R50 only.

Yeah, I checked. There was no automatic offered for the R53 until the facelift. It looks like SR0466X is also spec'd for the CVT R50 in addition to the manual R53, and the SR0470X is spec'd for the manual trans R50. Not that it helps Jefferson at this point though...
