Wiring under seat issue

2012 Mini Cooper 1.6
140K
Automatic

Purchased for my daughter in non-running (poorly running) condition from a bent valve(s). Removed and replaced cylinder head, timing chain, etc. Runs great but now has an ABS light and engine light. ABS code refers to a passenger seat occupancy issue. Engine light refers to a DSC sensor that also (as I can tell) located under passenger seat. Removed the seat and found harness severed and "hacked" partially back in place. Also appears seat doesn't match this vehicle.

I replaced both the driver and passenger seats with proper units that have unmolested wiring harnesses. I also cut a replacement harness for the vehicle side of the wiring. I see all the color wires are present on both my vehicle as well as the donor harness.

My concern is with the multiple brown wires (I assume are grounds) and I don't want to mix and match if that will apply ground circuits to wrong modules. Especially since some are clearly ABS.

Am I over thinking this or does it matter?

A ground connection is a ground connection.
What is important is making sure the gauge of the wires match. Don't hook up a heavy gauge wire from the seat side to a light gauge wire on the vehicle side.
