R56 weird issue - need help diagnosing this problem
thank you 🙂
Sure. When you remove the drain plug, insert the alan key back in the hole and you'll fell the stand pipe. It's purpose to drain excessive atf when you fil it.
The car needs to be running when you add the atf amd once it starts dripping that's when you stop.

It's an over-fill tube
Eh-Thomas, it's like an overfill tube. The tube sticks up inside transmission, when there is too much oil level it spills out, when you pull metal plug. Brilliant design. It's sort of unnerving to remove the drain plug with the engine running. I believe to properly verify level the engine needs to be warmed up. Nevertheless, if oil doesn't come out, with plug pulled it's low. You squirt oil (use a make shift 1/4" tubing stuck on the end of atf container) inside the tube and then remove the inserted plastic tube and the tranny self-levels itself. The level tube is removed by 5mm Allen wrench. The deal is, when you remove it, you have lost exactly how far it sticks up inside tranny. There is no reason to remove it, unless you want to drain the pan of oil. Even draining the pan does not surrender all the fluid. As you know, there is a lot of fluid inside tranny.
Roll with the punches?
Hey Everybody,
I finally got the courage and time to attempt this operation with my brother in law on this past weekend. Everything was ready except for one thing we didn’t anticipate. The previous guy who worked on my car has STRIPPED the inspection bolt! Now I can’t even remove the plug to do the job 😭😭.
So far, we are all theorizing that I am low on automatic transmission fluid. If this is the case, can I trickle in half a quart of fluid from the top? Are there any consequences to possibly over filling the transmission by half a quart? What are the symptoms of overfilling? [In this scenario, I’m assuming that I can’t remove the inspection plug and at the same time crossing my fingers and hoping for the best😑]

Which plug do you refer to as "inspection bolt"? Do you mean the drain plug? How is it "stripped"?`And if so: how did the previous shop drain the fluid?
btw: I'd be very careful assuming low fluid level without proof on such a complex hydraulic network as an automatic transmission box.
