Weird rattle that stops with clutch
Weird rattle that stops with clutch
Hey guys !
First post here altho I've been reading a lot of the threads since I've owned my R56 !
For about a year and a half now, sporadically, cold weather or hot. My MCS has been doing this weird rattle on start up and when I get going with it. It'll make this very high frequence rattle when I let go the throttle (I also noticed it's quite down on power during that period). The rattle instantly disappears when I press the clutch down and eventually fades away as I drive the car. I know Minis are supposed to sound like they're running on Diesel when started but that's definitely not it, it's really a rattle and not a "bumbling" sound. Any ideas what could be the reason ? The german car specialized garage where I've been going says it's normal (highly doubt it).

It's tough to say without hearing it, but every car I've ever owned with a dual mass flywheel has made sporadic rattling noises. It's normal.
When you push in the clutch you're applying an axial load to the flywheel which tightens things up and makes the rattle cease.

It's a dry sound like as if the car was dry on oil (checked and all good) and it eventually fades away as I drive. I'll try to get a video tomorrow.
