Electrical problem window module question
Electrical problem window module question
Had no idea changing a dead battery on my 2010 (R56) base mini would cause so many problems. Electric window computer module now no good due to me changing battery. Mechanic who registered battery (had no idea) said replacing window module very expensive and part only available through Mini dealer, have to have the correct software to install it, etc etc. Any fairly inexpensive alternatives to fix this problem or do I have to go to the dealer and pay a fortune? Any help appreciated.
He probably means the FRM. You can get one at the junkyard or on eBay, and then need to code it to your vehicle. For that you need a cable and a CAN diagnostic cable.
Pretty sure there are some threads around if you look for FRM

FRM Module
OK, did some research. FYI-any Mini that is < that 10 years old and has less than a certain amount of mileage can have the FRM module replaced by a dealer for free. Unfortunately even though mine had under the mileage limit, it's a 2010. Found a few companies that rebuild Mini FRM modules (for around $200), and it's plug & play. As it's your original unit, no software needed to install. Will be sending mine out tomorrow. Anyone ever had theirs rebuilt and recommend a company? Found a couple in CA and one in PA.
