Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
I'm in the process of changing my spark plugs on my 2011 R56 after 2 years and only 24,000 miles. It still blows my mind that a modern vehicle requires spark plugs so frequently, but that's the nature of the beast when R56 MINIs consume as much oil as they do.
The current issue I'm having is a misfire in cylinder one code and a multiple misfire code. I wonder if my issue is more the coils than the spark plugs. While they are all covered in oil, they have some corrosion on the insulator and the terminal. With 158,000 miles, it's honestly past time that I replace the coils.
EDIT: I actually did some more research and the way the oil is deposited on the spark plugs makes me think that my valve cover gasket is leaking. I checked the ones I took out over 2 years ago, (Yes, I'm a pack rat....) , and the plugs did not have much if any oil on the threads.
Anyone else seen similar? Is my diagnosis of a coil, spark plug, and valve cover gasket correct?
Honestly I’m going to keep swapping mine NGK’s out every year, no matter the mileage, and depending how the coils look, I’m at 20,000 so I’ll probably be good for a few years there. Like you, I kept my last set, I want to compare them next year. It just going to be part of my preventative maintenance every year, I know what type driving is coming my way this year.
Well the car does have a Peugeot Prince engine. These are actually OEM plugs from MINI that I purchased through FCP Euro. I was just as surprised as you @Minidogger when I did it two years ago.
Maybe I'll lean on that FCP Euro warranty more and do it every year like you mentioned Jason.

If you picked them up from FCP Euro they have a lifetime warranty, I’d jump through their hoops for the free plugs. I’m probably going to order my coils from there just for this reason. Might not be a bad ideal to get my plugs from there next time as well, I would try to make sure they send ngks. I got my last set from rock auto, cheapest I could find ngks.
