My MCS is pulling to the Left
Let me start this post by noting that I searched for a similar subject but could not find much. I recall reading somewhere that a few individuals had problems with their cars pulling to the left for no apperant reason. I think it had something to do with the hubs?? I would appreciate any feedback on this issue particularly as to the severity of the pull. I can start out in the far left portion of a lane, point my MINI to the right side and before it touches the right hand BOTs DOTs, it is back to heading for the left edge again (no hands on the wheel). This takes place in the span of a couple of 10th's of miles. I have not yet noticed any unusual wearing on the tires.
I am a careful driver and never done anything to my MINI that would cause it to pull. In fact, my '99 5 series has over 133,000 miles on it, has never been aligned and still runs straight and true as the day I brought her home.
Thanks for your time and consideration.

>>I'm not sure whether it was on MCO or Mini2.com, but I had seen a number of posts that highlighted the ' left pull' problem. If I find it again I'll repost to you.

"Left Pull" was a problem on the early build Coopers with the Series 1 suspension. Beginning with March build in 2002, the suspension was changed on the Cooper and the Cooper S to what is called Series 2 suspension.
The only Cooper S that could even possibily have the Series 1 are the very first Dealer Demos (referred to as Demo Spec, since the options were priced seperately, even though all the elements of what would eventually become the Sport and Premium packages were present).
I have not heard of a left pull issue with any Cooper S built after the implementation of the Series 2 suspension in March.
- Have you checked your tire pressure to see if it's even all the way around?
- Also, have you had the alignment shot in?

hey ....found it on http://www.MINI2.com....
go to technical, Maintenance & Modifications >Faults & Fixes and do a seacrh on Pulling..Pull...Left. You should get a bunch of results and specifically a post by nmottram on Sept 30th. That comment and the replies should give you a good idea on the issue
Good Luck

I am very suspect of New car alignment...
I have all my new cars aligned after delivery. The last three new cars I have owned were out of align when delivered.
Just complain of a pull and they will do an align under warranty.

Thanks for all your input folks! I suspect it might me a combination of slight differences in tire pressure (but where is the warning light??? Not enough of a difference????) and a barely within spec alignment. I have just over 8k on MINI now. I'll note it when I go in for the oil change along with the myriad of rattle issues...
>>You won't get a warning light for uneven tire pressure, just when the system detects changes in tire pressue.
This doesn't seem right. I thought (and I've been wrong before) that the system signals a warning when the constant state rotation speeds differ by x% due to the change in diameter of an under (or over) inflated tire...
This because the system does not monitor inflation pressure.

well you're of course correct that it doesn't actually measure inflation pressure it does measure rotation speed. But the system is looking for a change in relative rotation speed. Not a steady state difference wheel to wheel.
Just as an FYI, my tires were set to 38psi from the dealer and the sensor tripped when one of them got down to about 30-32psi (can't recall exactly.) It was due to a screw in the tire.
Buy a decent tire pressure gauge and check the tires. There's quite a difference in ride/handling over a few psi difference.
Hope you get it worked out,
Jeff
