2006 R53 Caught Fire Due to Steering Pump
Hello, I’ve lurked here on and off since 2016, when I bought my MINI. This forum has been instrumental in both my buying and maintaining my car.
A couple nights ago my MINI caught fire as soon as I pulled into the driveway (more information about this issue here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...bay-fires.html ).
Over the past couple of years, I have put a lot into this car: a new cat, a new clutch, two new axels, caliper, breaks, and just in the last month or so, a new passenger window, new rims, and awesome performance wide tires.
My insurance hasn’t assessed it yet, but they’ve already ruled it a total loss. I have all of my documentation (I have saved every receipt I’ve ever received down to every oil change), and supposedly this will improve the value I’ll receive from my insurance, but most of all, I hope it will help me in getting more money out of selling my poor baby for parts.
I’m wondering if you all have any guesses as to what I can expect from selling this car in parts or in whole or trading it in for a new MINI etc.
I would really like to buy a diesel roaster or coupe, but it seems like they’re exceedingly rare. I welcome any suggestions for extra fun MINIs you think I might enjoy that are relatively affordable. I know many MINIs suffer from fatal flaws as mine certainly did, so what NOT to get is also good feedback. Thanks in advance.

trading it in for a new MINI
Easiest thing to do would be take the insurance check and let them haul it away. See what they offer you for the total and go from there. If you have $$$$ in mods, you might do better to part it out then have a scrapper haul away the carcass when you're done.
