'08 Cooper S auto transmission swap
'08 Cooper S auto transmission swap
Hi,
Does anyone know if a 2011 cooper/clubman S and up GA6F21WA, TF60SN 6 sp auto trans can be swapped into a 2008 cooper S? I can't really find concrete evidence one way or another. Gut feeling is yes! Or least up to 2016 model yr.
Debating rebuilding the '08 trans vs a swap to low mileage replacement. The issue is more the cost/lack of rebuilt torque converters. I can source a 56K used trans/torque converter for $410 shipped. Verses rebuilding and reman torque converter for $600. I have already cleaned the valve body and small canister solenoids (without grinding the tops off like large can solenoids in the Trango kit) due to a slipping 1st gear and 2nd gear clutch packs and associated 2nd gear ratio monitored error code. Going to air check the transmission clutch packs this weekend to determine if its a clutch drum seal(s) or not. Trans Pressures are good while monitored with SnapOn Solus scan tool. Adaptions have been reset after cleaning valve body. Fluid was brown, with much debris in fluid. Car was a non runner when I got it. Any insite/help is appreciated. Anyone want to buy a 08 Mini Cooper S with rebuilt long block, new turbo, throttle body and injectors lol! This car has had one problem after another, waiting for HP fuel pump to fail next!

I tried the opposite. I had a '13 justa and used an '07 transmission on it. I am not sure if it were on its way out or I did something wrong, but the donor tranny only lasted 900 miles before it didn't want to engage.
I know the post 2010 transmissions would disengage when you stop and engage the moment you start lifting your foot off the brake. I think the TCM is not compatible without reprogramming so maybe the tranny is the same. it is probably designed to work with N18 inputs.
how many miles on the car and what's the asking price (if you were to sell it as is)
