Chirping noise
Chirping noise
I have a 13 mcs and have been noticing a chirping noise almost like a bird under my hood when i first start the car sometimes stayes til warmed up some a good 10 or 15 min sometimes longer after a drive when its idleing u can still hear it. I dont drive the car daily but when i started it in the winter to keep the battery up and to let it run i would hear it and now it warmer i hear it to kinda sounds like its comming from the vacuum pump. In kno the pumps are known to be loud but its a wierd noise. when i was driving it this weekend my brake pedal felt kinda soft like it dropped a lil before the brakes worked. So i wana test it. I saw on pelican parts a write up on how to but the test they run is on a n14. Are the specs the same and is the procedure it self the same? I have to change my oil and thermostat housing this weekend since i got a code so i figure ill do it all at once any help would be appreciated.

I saw that thread and it doesnt sound like mine at all. Mine engine sounds normal but with a light chirp chirp chirp every few seconds. As if a small bird was under my hood thats the only way i can explain it atleast. Its not a overpowering noise and it def comming from the drivers side of the engine tgats y i was thinking the vac pump. I had all of my accessory stuff replaced a year or so ago when i had the timing chain done and i did the belt in september that side is quiet. I will check the pcv diaphram if i can get that plastic cap off i dont wana break it and not have the part on hand and i have a gauge to measure vacuum so thats y i figure id atleast check the pump to cross that off. N go from there
Your chirp sounds like a tensioner to me from your description. Remove the belt and spin the tensioner by hand. It it's not a smooth rotation then replace it. If it does rotate smoothly without any roughness, then spin your other pullies(water pump, alternator, etc.) by hand looking for one that does not rotate smoothly and replace that. My money is on the tensioner, though.
