Coolant system cleaning - What is most EFFECTIVE power flush process?

Coolant system cleaning - What is most EFFECTIVE power flush process?

This question IS about what process is best as dislodging any accumulated stuff in the system Which hoses to forward to back flush from/to, which chemical (if any) to use, tips and tricks. etc.

What this question is NOT about - This questions is NOT about how to get all coolant out or worrying about having tap water in the system. It seems that this ShopVac process is good at getting out any old liquid https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ush-diy-2.html

I'm reconditioning a 2002 R53 which has a brown rust looking stuff in the coolant and the heater core disconnected. I'm looking to best dislodge and flush out any rust particles and foreign matter before refilling system I will also replace the existing heater core and reconnect it. The existing heater core does not seem to leak tough it does have rust color inside the and seems to have restricted flow so I'll replace it as a preventative measure.

Since the heater core is disconnected already, maybe flush through both heater hose will get the whole system?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

I'm not 100% sure I understand what how you're trying to flush the system. I had some brown funky stuff in my coolant system recently. I put some prestone coolant flush stuff in it, drove it for a few days (according to the instructions) and then did my usual drain and fill process. I usually run it up to temp, then drain, refill with distilled water and repeat until what drains out looks pretty close to what goes in. I don't have a shop vac, but that method does seem promising and perhaps faster.

I was amazed at how clean the system was after the prestone flush, and the coolant has remained very clear and clean in the past 18 months since doing the chemical flush.

The Liqui-Moly radiator cleaner is great for cleaning the cooling system too. I've used it on my daughter's MINI and my BMW. Here's a link from ECS:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-liqui_mo...00ml/2051~liq/

I ran the Liqui-Moly product as instructed on the bottle, drained and filled with distilled water only before draining and replacing with BMW coolant.

The flush is easy if you take off the radiator and all cooking hoses and super charger 🤣 can of worms.

Houses were bloating from oil soaking (replacing the oil pan gasket and sensor o ring.

Wonder how long PO ran only water. The pump is stamped 2015 production. Holes on both sides of that nipple!
