forward from another site ....

guy toasted his motor and says the Craven dipstick is to blame . . . . :

PSA- If you have a CravenSpeed oil dipstick, throw it out and install a OEM one. I spun a bearing at a track event not realizing I was low on oil.

This was on a R53

CravenSpeed dipstick is longer then OEM.

there ARE comments he read it wrong . . .

First sorry for your woes!

Pic from CravenSpeed website. Are you saying the full holes do not line up? Does the longer dipstick hit the bottom and give false reading?

Interesting. I have the Craven speed (never used it) and a copy of the Craven I found at an auto wrecker (plastic handle no branding gave it away). I just did a lay down comparison using the copy, the Craven and OE they were all different lengths.. the craven was longer- just as shown above than the OE. I would assume the length would be different due to the flexibility of the craven. It would more than likely dangle in the oil rather than stab it(for lack of a better word). Im going to do an oil change on the beast today and will be using the OE fill values rather than the stick. Should be interesting to see what happens.

It isn't the Cap BJ woes, he is just posting someone else's post. Cravenspeed dip stick should be marked to show level, how hard to and and F & L on it? But obviously whoever wrote the original post had no idea how to read the stick.

I got sidelined my the kids so was unable to get to the oil change. From what I see oil fill capacity is anywhere between 4.2L and 4.5L with filter change. Anyone happen to know the exact capacity?
