Went to start my 2011 mcs this morning and heard a wonderful noise comming from my engine rythmic slapping.

Look at the inside of the belt. Sometimes small chunks go missing from wear and tear. Just remove the wheel and spin the engine by hand, 18mm socket clock wise.

I would use a stethoscope to identify from where the noise is originating. Have you replaced your timing chain tensioner? Mine was loose and leaking oil significantly. The engine was considerably quieter after I tightened it. That said, it could be so many different items.

It would run all the way down from the tensioner bolt by the intake manifold to the oil pan. I thought my oil pan seal we bad.

it would appear oil leak caused the belt tensioner to malfuntion belt slap was in fact the cause
car was driven 5 miles w/o oil cap so might not even be a leak
