Aligning front crash bar and crash tube torque specs
Hi all, did some work on the ac system this weekend.
2005 MCS, r53.
Aligning the front crash bar (is that even what it’s called?) was a pain. One the bolts on the left side would not align so left it off :/. Is there a trick I’m missing?
Also torqued the crash tubes to subframe at 74 ft lbs...one of them stripped :/. Do I have that torque spec wrong?
Got the new compressor and condenser in tho. Cold air!

Mine can be a pain to put on too. Try putting all the bolts in hand tight then torque everything a little at a time rather than tightening any 1 then another. Pay attention to any movement in the pieces as you do. They do have a 'drifting' problem if you don't do things evenly, but a light rubber mallet tap can put it back where you need it if necessary. I've had 2 of the same model, and only the 1 car has the strain on my patience

thank you for confirming. I hear you on the deforming...but they look to be in good shape. I even started the bolt by hand :/

tried leaving the bolts loose, tubes loose and the rubber mallet...was on my last nerve 🤬
the bolt into the frame on the right side was just not lining up. I think if I had more time I could have gotten it but needed the car back together for work this morn.
I’ll give it another go next round. Thank you for the reply, sir
