R60 frozen wheel bolts

frozen wheel bolts

Any tricks for loosening frozen (rust) wheel bolts?

6 point 1/2 “ drive socket and a long
breaker bar.

if that doesn’t work jack up the wheel,
put the socket and breaker bar on so
it’s almost touching the road, and lower
the car so it pushes the end of the bar
up by the weight of the car.

You have to be sure to put it on the
correct way to LOOSEN, not tighten
the bolt.

I recommend an impact wrench. They are less likely to break bolts when removing them compared to the constant torque that is applied with a breaker bar.

I broke 2 wheel bolts on my 2006 MCS trying to remove them with a breaker bar. Now I have a plug in impact wrench but I still cringe every time I deal with the lug bolts. Oh, and when you go to put them back on, torque them to spec.

Just checking, they are not reversed threaded are they?
