Oil Filter Housing Question

During the head rebuild I changed the oil filter housing and oil cooler gaskets.

Its leaking now about 3000 miles from i stall. I have two questions:

1. Can you take out the oil filter housing without taking off the turbo? I removed the coolant lines from the turbo cooling motor and I think I can remove the turbo oil scavange line from the cooler.
2. Can it leak oil from the cooler side? It’s a little wet with oil there but not sure if it’s leaking there.

Well, I answered question 1. Its off without removing the turbo.

Here are some pictures. Can’t tell if the cooler is leaking. Cant even see where the housing is leaking. The turbo line is new and upgraded and the oil line is not above the filter housing.

I just did the same thing (head gasket etc) but don't have it back on the road yet. Bungled the plug for the Engine Coolant Temp sensor...still have to get the front end back on the car. The engine starts and runs well.

Did you replace gasket between the heat exchange as well as the one on the block? I won't know for a few weeks how well mine came out but I was very meticulous to tighten everything down slowly and torqued to specs. I used some Locktite on all the bolts so I'm hoping I don't have any problems.

Yes I changed them both the first time. One thing I didn’t do was torque them. I tightened them goodn tight.

It's not the best design and they all seem to have problems eventually...hopefully you can get it back together without minimal down time or expense. I do recommend torquing the bolts to make sure you've got even pressure where the gaskets meet. That should minimize a recurrence of the leak. Tight enough but not too tight.

Alright. Housing in in and torqued to 95 in pounds. Fourth attempt. The other times oil ran out of the housing and contaminated my clean surface. Had to drain it at different angles.

Have to go away for work. Will put the reat together next weekend.

Torqued and no leaks. Even did a track day and no leaks from housing.
