2013 MCS, N18 Schwaben fault codes

I have a 2013 MCS with N18 engine and 45K miles.

I recently had the CEL come on and with my Schwaben scanner, I get the following codes.

3490/not present: Map thermostat, activation: line disconnection
387F/not present: Power management, closed-circuit current violation
5DAE/not present: DSC brake fluid level too low

1. The brake fluid, I've checked and it's not low in the brake fluid reservoir.

Any idea what these could mean or indicate? They appeared directly after changing the oil at 45k miles.

Car seems to be driving fine on short trips (7 miles) to work, haven't tried any longer trips.

Any idea's or things I can check? I've erased the codes but they return.

What does "not present" mean in the code?

Its happening in the key cycle but just not present at that time. Like its works then does not work, then work again. If that makes sense. My guess is that there is a short or loose wire in the wire loom? Intermediate sensor.

You're response is referring to which code?

All the not presents. I would check the DSC wires, by the thermostat, and by the main engine harness. If there is a mouse or little animal that chewed the lines that can happen. Happen to my MINI twice. But also if someone did work on the engine and bumped the wire harness and its frayed that can happen.

Thank you so much! This may save me from replacing the thermostat that I purchased from you guys.

If it appeared after you did some work on it (oil change) it’s very possible that something got bumped or accidentally disconnected, or maybe just knocked a little loose.
Before throwing any more parts at it, go back over everywhere you did anything in there and recheck all wire connections and so on. It’s likely it’s related to the recent work.
When I replaced my turbo, I had abs and airbag lights and codes. It turned out that an accelerometer came unplugged, and it was well away from where I was working at on the turbo. But it happened somehow. Always recheck everything first, then check again and again, if the issue appears immediately after doing maintenance or repairs. It took me 3 days to find the unplugged accelerometer, because I wasn’t even looking in that area at first. Since it was along side of the motor mounted on the frame rail, underneath.
I have the same scan tool, not present means it threw the code, but the fault is not currently active when you scanned it.

Also check that the MAP sensor is plugged in right. There are 2. One on the intake manifold under the airbox, and one on the hard charge pipe from the cool side of the fmic, on the passenger side, just before the soft charge pipe that goes from that to the throttle body on the intake manifold.

Spent some time checking all the connections today in the engine bay especially around the thermostat. Was able to get the other two codes to disappear, but the 3490/not present, Map thermostat, activation line disconnect is still present.

There are the two connections for the thermostat, one on top of the thermostat and the other further back and down, I checked both and disconnected and reconnected both. Is there something I can spray on them to help clean the connections? They look clean.

Or any other thoughts what I should look at?

I'll check the MAP sensors later tonight or tomorrow.

OK, I checked both the MAP sensors, disconnected them reconnected them several times and they seem to have a good connection. Erased the code and hope that it doesn't come back on tomorrow when I drive. I didn't pull them out of the intake manifold or the charge pipe and see what they looked like. That'll be my next step tomorrow if the code comes back.

Would overfilling oil in the oil pan slightly cause this fault on the MAP sensor?

After cleaning both MAP sensors and the connections, erasing the codes, the thermostat code came back. So next weekend I'll change the thermostat. Seems that that is the issue with the code.

Is there a way to test the thermostat to see if it needs to be replaced?

I have no leaks, nothing to indicate it needs to be replaced other the the code. Today on the way home I checked the coolant temperature and it was 201F when I got home. Only 7 miles home. Seems crazy it needs to be replaced with only 45K on the car.

Please let me know.
