It's hard to help on questions like this without knowing the model and year.

thanks, now we know the proper forum section for this thread, and we also know what to look up. See the Gen2 FAQ for links to a lot of sources of information about your car, including repair procedures, parts guides, and wiring diagrams.

According to the Bentley manual, it is "I01068 Terminal 30G Relay." Digging a little further into the wiring diagrams, it provides power to the amplifier, sunroof, convertible top module (for the convertibles), the stereo and CD, interior lighting, transmission control, DSC, steering column switch cluster, HVAC... basically most of the interior of the car through the fuses in the panel in the passenger side footwell. It carries a lot of current, so not surprising that it gets warm. If it is getting hot, as in too hot to touch comfortably, it could be failing.

Does your car have a sunroof? Clogged sunroof drains resulting in water in the interior are a known issue, that electrical panel on more than one car has been wrecked because of it. If you have a sunroof, check that area for any signs of it getting wet..

The red arrow in Jerry661's picture points at the removable K96 fuel pump relay, which turns on the low pressure fuel pump (LPFP) in the fuel tank.

The K96 relay in the JBE is controlled by the soldered terminal 30G relay, the failure of which is a common cause for the LPFP not running or intermittently not running.
