Car died when stopped and was dying out on drive home. NEED HELP!

I have a r56 s model and I was on my way home from work when the engine started to bog down and lose power. I really needed to get home so I kept driving and the car shook a lot and the exhaust kept backfiring. When I came to a stop the car died and I pushed it down hil and it started back up while rolling. Any idea on what’s wrong? I haven’t got it scanned and it won’t start anymore.

Where to start? If you can provide the specific code numbers that would help greatly. At this point it could be fuel or air related. Could be ignition related since you said the codes were misfire. Check all the plug wires for cracks and the terminals for corrosion. Check your battery voltage and alternator output. Check fuel pressure. Knowing the codes will help lead us in a particular direction.

I’ll try and find someone with a scanner because I can’t afford a tow. I will also check the plug wires

And welcome to the forum. Most here are very helpful. It make take a while for some to contribute, but once we do you can’t get rid of us. These cars can be complicated especially when it comes to sensors and emissions. Where are you? Someone here may be in your area and help with a scanner.

I live in central Wisconsin right outside of Marshfield and I grew up in a N/A first gen and an r56 was the first car I bought with my money. It’s a love hate relationship but I’ve had it for a year and it makes my day just to look at it. I just wanna drive it!
