Help, electrical issue/ power steering/ alternator???
I recently replaced my driver side cv axle in my 2003 mini cooper s, and I was getting ready to take my car for a test drive. My mini started right up, no issues, I let it warm up for about 5 minutes then went back out to see how it was running, and I smelled a very electrical burning smell. Then I went to drive it, and my battery light came on, and my power steering stopped working.
I read a couple forum posts that seemed to suggest that the alternator was the issue, so I ordered a new one, and today I went to jump it to drive it over to my garage. And the same smell popped up again, before I started the engine. As well as white smoke from around the power steering pump, under the exhaust manifold. It also made the jumper cables really hot.
I'm currently stumped. Guessing maybe a power steering pump failure?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
