CVT Shift cable

I have a 2002 base w/CVT. Typical issue as it needs a rebuild. So I pulled it out and when through it completely. I have sent it off to the repair shop to have it re-learned. The problem I found when I re-installed the transmission it seemed that the shift cable is too long. Took the car all apart anything that had to do with the shift cable, and couldn't find anything obvious. I ended up cutting the end of the cable off just to get it to shift.

What have I missed or bent or done wrong??

I assume it’s the original cable? If it’s mounted on both ends correctly and it shifts properly then leave well enough alone. It would be hard to say from a distance what’s changed. How far off is it? One inche, etc?

The cable seemed to be about an inch too long. When you put into or try to put into gear the end of the cable would hit the bracket it is mounted to. I cut the end of the cable off just to get it into gear. The shifting feels a bit sticky. I am in search of a replacement cable.
