Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
My 09 Clubman 2 wouldn't start this morning. No problems until now. My code reader read 4 codes p0340, p0343, p15E8 and P0503. On the second read, all cleared except P0503. I'm not sure where to start.
Remove valve cover and inspect the timing chain and it's guides. Looks like you skipped a tooth or two. There should be tension on the chain... If not, you could have bent some valves. Do not crank the engine until you inspect these components....Good luck.
Thank you! Someone told me that from the code it threw, that it could also be the spark plugs. Do you think I should start with the timing chain first and then the spark plugs?
Yes, it takes like 10 mins to pull the valve cover and check the timing chain. It’ll be obvious. The plastic guides should look intact. Look into Pelican Parts for pictures of what it should look like. They have a How to step by step on the timing chain.
