2002 R50 hazard lights flashing

2002 R50- I've got a water intrusion problem that I'm fighting. Unlike most, I have no sunroof so it's quite hard to track down where it's coming from. Carpet's out as I've been battling this for years. The module/connector in the footwell has been lightly damaged- here's what happens. Sometimes randomly but often when I'm sponging the water up I will bump the wire bundle and cause the hazard lights to flash as well as the windows to roll down a bit. The hazards keep flashing but they aren't the real hazard lights- the dash button isn't flashing and the flasher isn't making noise like you turned on the 4 way switch- it's quietly flashing. To turn it off you need to push the hazard switch (actually turning the flashers on) and then pushing the switch again turning them off. If you bump the bundle again it starts all over again.

Assuming I actually get the water problem solved what can be done? It was doing this when the carpet was in too and somebody was stepping close to the module. Is this some sort of error code I don't know about? Should I try to clean the connector pins and sockets?

Thanks-

Val

You need to dry out the wiring good and then check for a loose connection. A little dielectric grease in the connectors will help keep water out. Fix the water leak because it will continue to cause all sorts of problems.
