Hello NAM!
New R56 owner here and I’m very excited to finally give mini a try. Scored this 09 MCS at the local dealer car auction for very cheap and it was listed as INOP. Later that day I jumped it and it started up but dies as soon as you removed clamps so i’m guessing alternator needs replacing.
Few days later I went to start it again and it would crank but no start. I know ky way around cars so I started with basic troubleshooting Air / Fuel / Spark. Had air had spark but no fuel. Took low pressure pump out and tested it with power probe. It worked. Took off HPFP and tested it and it worked. Tested plug to low pressure pump and I was gettin almost no power. Then I used power probe to apply direct 12v to the pump and prime fuel for 5 seconds. Car fired right up without issues. So now I know that problem is with wiring. Traced it to BCM in passenger footwell. While digging around I realized that carpet foam was damp. I traced source of water to top right front corner of the headliner. Suspect clogged drain plug from sunroof. Now i’m wondering if BCM got fried from water or something. Funny thing is EVERYTHING works in the car. Lights / Radio / Windows / Airbags / Wipers etc. only thing that doesnt work is voltage to fuel pump. After inspecting and taking apart BCM i realized that most relays are built into mother oard and are non replaceable ( stupid design )
i woukd like to know where fuel pump relay is? (My guess it’s ine of the soldered in ones). If so does anyone know which one it is?
I don’t want to replace BCM as I dont want to have to reprogram it and mate it to the car. I was thining of sourcing a new relay and soldering it instead of the faulty one. I have a friend who’s good at soldering small things.
Any help would be appreciated greatly as i’m hoping to put her on the road as soon as possible!
The Bentley book indicates this relay is near the center/bottom of the fuse panel. Just below the fuses. I've had mine in and out several times trying to diagnose a crank/no fire issue.
I saw a article that the guy puts in just the relay, I don't have those type of skills I'd just replace the fuse box if you know for sure that's the issue. im' having a similar problem with my 08 r56
I had issues with stuff not working in my '06 R52.....found my passenger carpet was damp, and really wet under the foam after I pulled up the carpet. I noticed the K-bus wires under the seat were soaked, corroded, and broken off the connection under the carpet......
Short story and quick fix was I took every wire for the K-bus system, stripped back enough of the insulation to get good clean wire, twisted all the wires together and soldered them up all together......after that, everything in the car started to work again.......
