09 clubman clutch not grabbing

OK, so I just got the axles on my 09 clubbie and the wheels spin freely in gear (though opposite ways, yeah limited slip). Something is not right, I had my wife run through the gears while I watched under the hood, and the shifting mech seemed to be working correctly, and goes in reverse and all 6 gears, and the wheels spin freely. I think I made a rookie mistake with the clutch change, because I can't think of any reason why the wheels should spin while the car is in gear. I havent bled the clutch system yet, I but I dont see why that would matter. Shouldn't the wheels be locked to the engine while in gear, because the clutch DISengages the engine and drive wheels?

I think that is normal. did you drive the car at all to see if there was an issue? also keep in mind, axles for automatic are different that the ones for manual.

Thanks for the reply. The car is a 6MT, and all the parts were already together, so I did not swap anything around. the axles are stock to the car, a 2009 clubman s. I haven't got the car started yet, just getting done with a timing chain. The axles slid right in, and are solid, but that might be the issue. I'd have to check. I am just surprised the wheels spin with the car jacked up. I figured the wheels should be locked together with the engine. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

To answer your question, no I haven't driven it yet, but it doesn't look like it is going to move. The only thing I can think is the cause is I spilled a bunch of trans fluid while removing the transmission, but once again, why would that matter?
