R56 not starting up

Hello,

New at this so forgive me for being simple. We have a 2007 Mini Cooper base model and it was leaking coolant so we replaced the Thermostat Housing. Everything seemed fine when we started the car up to bleed it.
After awhile started getting engine light errors P0117 and P173B . So I re-seated the Temp coolant sensor and that code and engine light disappeared. Then I came back latter tried to turn the car on and the lights on
the dash started going on and off . There was also a sound coming from the engine area near the firewall (silver looking box) and it seemed stuck in a loop until i removed the cable from the battery.
Now there is no sound and no lights on the dash whats so ever. I tried to see if maybe the battery was shorting out or touching something.
Any help or idea where to start looking would be great.

Thanks in advance!

I would start with checking the battery. How old is it? A weak or marginal battery can cause all kinds of electrical havoc.

Battery date on sticker 02/14 and it reads 12.6V .I noticed when I disconnect battery and then reconnect it the car seems to start up. It won't start up again on a
second try. Then I check battery voltage and its 5.6 and climbing slowly back to the 12v area. I will check battery later at a shop and replace it if i need to.
Also saw the P173B code on the reader can a coolant temp sensor cause this? I 'm seeing 1 wire from the harness connector to the temp sensor is this right?

Thanks

Sure sounds like a kaput battery to me. A volt meter showing 12v doesn't mean much, needs to be tested under load.

Battery was defective and it now starts up everytime but I'm getting the P0117 code which I think is a coolant temperature sensor.(reseated all the connectors and erased code)
I'm going to replace with a new Thermaostat from the dealer which is under warranty, hard to believe they sent me a deffective part. Currently car has no heat and when I try
to drive it around the block it trys to stall 5 or six times.
