Noise from Power steering fan when car turned off
Noise from Power steering fan when car turned off
Car was dead when I went to come home tonight. Was able to first get into the car and get a boost so I could get home. Went out to the garage about 30 minutes after I got home and the Mini was still making a fan related noise. It seems to be coming from the back of the engine where the power steering pump and fan are located.
Why is the power steering fan still running?
Is the issue with the fan or the pump? both?
This is a 2004 Cooper S with 111k miles.
I disconnected the battery tonight to prevent it from running longer than it had to.

After reading all of the posts on power steering pump failures, I must have been lucky as this was the original pump on the vehicle and I have 111k miles. Any way it appears there as a recall on the pump. When I searched on the NTHSA website with my VIN number, it indicated that the recall was incomplete for my vehicle. Would I be lucky if this meant that it qualified for a repalcement?
Looks like a new pump is about $300-400 and while I am down there, I am guessing I should replace the fan so that is $130

Yes you most likely qualify for the replacement. Call a dealer and ask and they will be able to tell you if you have any doubts. When mine was replaced they took care of some leaky power steering hoses as well. All of it was covered under the recall.
